quilt for bambino!!!

quilt top finished….no pattern, just made it up as I went….BUT, it’s not laying flat people…even after I pressed it. Now what the heck do I do?? Hopefully my wonderful quilt shop ladies will have some suggestions. I really didn’t expect this to happen, not the end of the world, but all this work, and now it won’t lay flat…really? BUMMED!!!! Next question I ask myself, if I can get it to lay flat….HOW SHOULD I QUILT IT???? circles? meandering stitch? hearts? It’s for our Grandbaby, and I really just want it to be cute….Any suggestions out there?? Moral of this story, if your going to make a quilt up as you go….ask HOW to make sure it will lay flat BEFORE you start to skip the headache later!!! Wish me luck people!! I’m going to need it!!

Cheers! a day of organizing and preparing for a baby shower at my house for my Daughter in Law…to be. She is due in September, so this Saturday there will be fun, food, games, lots of “ooooo-ING” and “aaah-ING” at the cute baby things she will have to open. It’s been like Santa’s workshop here at my house finishing up some handmade gifts of love for the baby!
We are all so excited to welcome this baby into the world, so many of us waiting, already head over heals in love with someone we haven’t even bet yet!! Stay tuned, I will blog about some of the home-made goodness!!! (yep, for those who haven’t met me, that’s me in the photo, from this past July)

Stitched together with love for someone special.

Stitched together with love for someone special.

Scraps of llinen, and velvet, an antique sparkly button, some ribbon, and wool “pages” on the inside, I made a friend a
funky little needle keeper case thingie….and a special pocket in the back made from vintage embroidered doily for a pair
of scissors. Lovin’ stuff that comes straight from the heart, and using up scraps, DOUBLE BONUS!!

Mer-Gurl

Mer-Gurl

I’ve never actually met a live mermaid, & I am NO dollmaker by any means…BUT (there’s always a but isn’t there?) my dear sweet niece Olivia has a birthday, and as she looked at me with her baby blues, I turned into putty,,,she requested I make her another mermaid doll…NO not just an “ordinary” mermaid doll, it must must have “zebra stripes” (yup, she said zebra stripes) Okay, so thank you God for blessing my sweet “Livvy” with an imagination! Warning this might get ugly, but as long as she likes it and knows it was made with 100% pure love, my job is complete!! I even gave her doll a crown, I mean a Mer-gurl needs a crown, right??

Used my shimmery lime green sparklie ink that showed up well on the brown…..It was a lot of fun, and I’m sure the postal workers once again….just LOVE me……NOT…I’ve done worse though, so I think I was pretty tame on these!! lol. I love creating fun mail for others to open. My hope is to make the recipient feel special and well thought of…as with 99% of the things I mail, it’s made with 100% LOVE!!

Inspired by an American Hero

I’ve been a NON-blogger for months, I felt that my words never came out right, but I’m throwing caution to the wind and trying to just share art and life….I will try and not my lack of words cripple me. This is a piece of art I did for a friend who recently lost her husband, who earned THREE purple hearts in the Vietnam War, he was a true American Hero.

ImageIt’s not a brand new year, but for me I am making October 1, 2012 a new start. I lost my father on August 24th of 2012 (unexpectedly) and less than 2 years ago my mother also passed. For me, I need to make this day a new beginning. Both of my parents are now gone. I have learned many things about each of my parents since they have passed, so much more understanding, forgiving, focusing on why things sometimes happen the way they do. A new found love and respect for each of them. I’ve always loved my parents, but now it’s just a different sort of love as they are no longer on this earth, I do know someday I will see them again. My dad ( who always reminds me of John Wayne) would explain to me when family members would pass…..” Well ya’ know ain’t none of us gonna get outta here alive”  Yep, I get it Dad, it’s true…harsh, but true, but as I pass these words of wisdom on to my sons I will also ADD to your sage advice, ” BUT, one day we will all be together again, in heaven” I treasure the memories I have of my parents.  In addition my old blog magically disappeared, I could not recover it, so once again, I am starting new. It’s been awhile since I’ve blogged anything, so forgive me, I may be a little wobbly!
